More like "Life Lessons From My Little Sister." →
ghanasos: Always take time to greet your neighbors and their families… no matter how rushed you are feeling on time. It’s always worth it. It’s okay to pick your nose in public. Drink plenty of water. Make funny faces at children, that’s how they communicate—a common language isn’t always necessary.

I mean, I get it. The criticism of Whole Foods or “Whole Paycheck” or whatever else people are calling it. But it’s just so….happy. There’s happy music. And happy people. And you don’t have to fight your way through crowds of people and screaming children (*cough* HEB). Tonight, I went through the line and the woman helping me started raving about the...

May 9th.
The best woman I know? That’s easy. My Grandma Ole. She taught me a lot of things. And she could’ve taught me a lot more, but I only had 14 years with her. It’s her birthday today. May 9th. It’s a hard day, and it never seems to get easier. Even after more than 10 years. The last memory I have is my aunt Neala singing Amazing Grace from the row behind me at the funeral....

Here's to you, Uncle Chuck.
I can play 13 notes of Fur Elise. It’s not pretty, but I can play it. I like to call it the “beginner’s version.” This came to me a few days ago. I was riding my bike past one of Austin’s pianos and I decided to sit down and play.  I’m not much of a piano player, but my sister is. She’s amazing. I’ve always wanted her to learn how to play Fur Elise...

oh, robots.: on life →
“You’re going to shine even brighter than you did before.” I dig this. darnrobot: Shh, don’t tell anyone.. but sometimes I write serious blog posts. I’m not a wise person, and I really haven’t experienced as much in life than may other, probably wiser people. But, here’s why I feel I’m qualified to write the following post: <life resume> I’ve made mistakes I’ve been…

Things.
I go through “things.” I wanted to be a writer. And then I worked at a pharmacy one summer and thought, “Hmm…maybe I should be a pharmacist instead.” And then I decided I was going to read two new books each month. My next “thing” was running, then decluttering my apartment, then hot yoga & blogging, soon followed by learning about wine. I tried...

Short dresses & flip flop tan lines
I wear shorts to work. And tank tops. And short dresses. I’m not trying to imply that I like showing leg. It’s just….well, it all stems back to my first week of work in the corporate world. It was late September. My boss called me into her office and shut the door. I figured I was in trouble for emailing too much. Or tweeting. Or chatting with my coworkers. (Okay fine, I wasn’t the world’s best...

It sucks.  And then, at some point, you find yourself laughing. And singing in the car. And dancing around the room.  And smiling the biggest smile you have. And then you just move on.

Pay it Forward.
Today, I walked out to my patio to have coffee with my sister…and I dropped my iPhone face down, square on the cement. I had this sinking feeling. I’d been lucky too many times. So I picked it up, turned it over, and looked at the screen. And just like I was afraid of…a spider web full of cracks. With some chunks missing. I was bummed. More than bummed. Of course I wasn’t...

Grandpa's New Story
My good friend Tim wrote this awhile back. And I loved it. But somehow between the busy-ness of the day and week, I didn’t give it the love it deserved. When I read something else of his today, I was reminded of this…and wanted to (again) share Grandpa’s New Story.

Reading “Eating Animals” by Jonathan Safran Foer. Stunning from the very beginning - the first thing I see is… “Americans choose to eat less than .25% of the known edible food on the planet.”

I think it’s every runner’s addiction - the “good sore.” I slept the best I’ve slept in months, even though it hurt every time I turned over or moved around to get comfortable. I missed this feeling.
